The Wee Writing Lassie and Ailish Sinclair present “Will the real Alexander please stand up?” – Introduction

Third Book! Third Blog Series! And a new protagonist to intrusively prod his creator about. Eee! I’m so excited. For not only is this the final book of the Young Dancers series, but according to Ailish Sinclair herself it is the final book to feature the Castle in it – at least according to my current sources. So this is really an end of an era.

But don’t worry I have come up with the perfect way to celebrate this land mark. This blog series will feature a total of fifteen questions … yes, you heard that right … along with the – by now should be expected – accompanying playlist on Spotify. So that’s a total of sixteen blog posts, counting this one, and as usual the final question will be released as a newsletter – so remember to sign up for that while you still can.

Alexander: Dancing with Fire

When Alexander turns eighteen, he learns that he has inherited a castle, the one that houses the dance school he attends, to be exact. He’s always wanted a do-over, a chance to fix the broken parts of himself and his life. Could this be it?

Instead of allowing the school to continue on as normal, Alexander throws the students and teachers out and claims the castle as his own.

At first he’s lonely. At first he’s hesitant. Will he have any friends left after this? The events of his uncle’s televised wedding at the castle prove that, while Alexander definitely still has friends, his broken ankle is actually the least damaged part of him.

Within the ancient castle walls, a world of dark family secrets is revealed. Join Alexander as he dances on the edge of sanity and survival, navigating through the flames of his turbulent past to forge a new future.

The Wee Writing Lassie and Ailish Sinclair present “Bubbles Galore” – Spotify Playlist

And so we come to the end my Wee Readers – not with a bang or a whimper, but a playlist. To try something new I’m going to let you get a glimpse of this playlist – the first five songs to be precise – before inevitably pressuring you to click through to the whole thing through the link at the bottom of the post.

1. You Will be Found by Ben Platt

As one of the final songs in the Musical “Dear Evan Hansen” – a show that deals with teenage mental health, although admittedly of a different variety- this felt like the perfect song to open our Bubbles Galore playlist.

2. Not While I’m Around by Barbra Streisand

Huh, two for two with Musical songs. I felt this song perfectly encapsulated Bubbles’ feeling of protectiveness towards those she loves, and the deep seeded fear that something terrible was going to happen to them.

3. We are Family by Sister Sledge

A song meant to emphasise the love Bubbles holds for her younger sister … and her mother … but the sister felt like the relationship that was the most pertinent to the plot.

4. My Favourite Things by Julie Andrews

Sometimes a girl just wants to be a bit random, and shouldn’t we be allowed to do that.

5. Boring by Lisa Pac

For Obvious reasons.

And now onto the Playlist ….

The Wee Writing Lassie and Ailish Sinclair present “Bubbles Galore”

Bubbles: Dancing Through History

It’s going to be the most boring year of her life. That’s what Bubbles has decided. This, her second year at the castle school, will involve no naked dancing, or television appearances. No fires in stone circles. No meltdowns. No hospital stays. You know, not like last year.

As she walks up the tree-lined drive towards the castle, she is immediately surrounded by TV reporters. Next she encounters the enigmatic and charming new boy, American student Aiden, and finds herself in an instalove situation. Being cast as the lead in a historical documentary is altogether too exciting and fun, as are the night-time visits to caves and underground chambers.

As Bubbles navigates her difficult home life, the complexities of her mental health and various intense experiences at the castle, she struggles to maintain equilibrium.

Will she be able to find balance amidst the chaos, or will her carefully laid ‘boring’ plan unravel completely?

Dive into this captivating coming-of-age tale filled with drama, romance, and self-discovery.

The Wee Writing Lassie’s 300 Books in a Year – Book 65

The Many Deaths of Harry Potter by ShayneT

Goodreads Blurb: In a world with a pragmatic, intelligent Voldemort, Harry discovers that he has the power to live, die and repeat until he gets it right.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Review: I usually avoid Slytherin Harry Potter fics like the plague – especially if they make him overly competent, as it feels it’s rather missing the point of his original character. However, not only does this story give legitimate reasons for his character change but it’s very well written, and with such a intriguing premise. Five out of five, this was a pleasant surprise 😎

Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov

Goodreads Blurb: So far the Foundation was safe. But there was a hidden Second Foundation to protect the first. The Mule has yet to find it, but he was getting closer all the time. The men of the Foundation sought it, too, to escape from Mule’s mind control. Only Arkady, a 14 year-old girl seemed to have the answer, or did she…?

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Review: Well, I’m not sure whether or not this was intended but … that ending was chilling.

The Wee Writing Lassie’s 300 Books in a Year – Book 63

Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov

Goodreads Blurb: Foundation and Empire tells the incredible story of a new breed of man who create a new force for galactic government. Thus, the Foundation hurtles into conflict with the decadent, decrepit First Empire. In this struggle for power amid the chaos of the stars, man stands at the threshold of a new, enlightened life which could easily be put aside for the old forces of barbarism.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Review: My favourite part is “The Mule” – because the only time anyone in the Foundation is likeable is when they’re the underdogs.

The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory

Goodreads Blurb:Why would a woman marry a serial killer?

Because she cannot refuse…

Kateryn Parr, a thirty-year-old widow in a secret affair with a new lover, has no choice when a man old enough to be her father who has buried four wives – King Henry VIII – commands her to marry him.

(Goodreads Page)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Review: Ding Dong the bastard’s dead. I’m not going to mark that as a spoiler, this is a historical novel about the Queen that survived Henry VIII, it should be kind of obvious how it’s going to end. I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves political intrigue and the farce it all becomes when your king is mad. Warning: There is a rape scene near the end.

(Goodreads Page)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Review: So … uh … Robinson Cruesoe is a slaver. And a pretty unrepentant one at that. Why was this never mentioned to me before? Come on popular culture, you have some explaining to do.

The Call of the Wild by Jack London

Goodreads Blurb: First published in 1903, The Call of the Wild is regarded as Jack London’s masterpiece. (Goodreads Page)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Goodreads Review: Wow, this book is intense. I’m glad I read it, but I don’t think I’ll do so again.

Meanwhile in 2025: Huh … guess I’m a liar 🤥😁
