Sex Scandals of Ancient Greece and Rome by Monica Cyrino

Goodreads Blurb: The world has utterly transformed over the course of the last 2,000 years. Many of the norms, rules, and expectations of the ancient world can feel strange to our 21st century sensibilities. But certain things remain constant, and one of those is the complexity of human relationships—especially romantic and sexual relationships.

The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie

Goodreads Blurb: Hercule Poirot and Arthur Hastings reunite for their most difficult case yet. When Poirot receives a letter warning him that a crime is about to be committed by the ‘A.B.C’ the friends find themselves in a race against time to decipher the killer’s twisted logic as he taunts the great detective by announcing the next murder location alphabetically. With every new killing a new pool of suspects is uncovered.

First is Alice Ascher in Andover, whose abusive husband has a shaky alibi. Then the flirtatious Betty Barnard is murdered, leaving behind possessive fiancé, Donald Fraser and jealous sister Megan. Carmichael Clarke is the third victim, a wealthy man whose ambitious secretary, Thora Grey, or grieving brother Franklin, could be suspects. All the while, the mysterious Mr Cust makes his rounds through England.

Can Poirot and Hastings unmask the killer before a final letter seals an innocent victim’s fate?

Goodreads Review:Usually I have absolutely no idea who the murderer really is in one of these books but I have to say the first time we met them I had a bit of an inkling something was off here. Which made it all the more enjoyable when the truth was revealed and the killer brought out into the open… I love feeling like a genius.

The Perfect Nanny by D.L. Fisher

Goodreads Blurb: My husband didn’t understand why I wanted to return to work, especially while our daughter is still so young. She’s only four weeks old. But I’m at risk of losing my job if I don’t.

Bree Miller is the perfect answer — she’s young, bright and adores Delilah.

We go for a walk in Central Park on Bree’s first day. I’m taking a call when I hear a loud, high-pitched shriek. My heart races in my chest as I turn the corner.

A man dressed head-to-toe in black has his fingers wrapped around the handle of Delilah’s stroller.

Bree is fighting him off. As I approach, he flees. Bree is left with a dark bruise on her face and her eye is swollen shut. They tried to kidnap my daughter.

Then, threatening photos arrive on my doorstep.

Someone is after me and my family. And I can’t help but wonder if the real danger is outside. Or if I’ve invited her into my home.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Goodreads Blurb: When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula with the purchase of a London house, he makes a series of horrific discoveries about his client. Soon afterwards, various bizarre incidents unfold in England: an apparently unmanned ship is wrecked off the coast of Whitby; a young woman discovers strange puncture marks on her neck; and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the ‘Master’ and his imminent arrival.

Goodreads Review: The first thing that strikes me is just how damn likeable everyone in this book is. Well … everyone except the vampires but then they’re evil blood-sucking fiends from Hell I think we can just let them be their unlikable, murderous selves. We don’t have to go and woobify the vampires, right internet? Internet? Why is nobody answering back?

Merlin: The Arts by iMinds

Goodreads Blurb: As the advisor who helps King Arthur through the early years of his reign, Merlin has become the most famous wizard of all time.

The stories of Merlin may have been based on a real person. But the character we know as Merlin today has come down to us through the “History of the Kings of Britain”, a book by the twelfth-century English writer Geoffrey of Monmouth. A later text called “Le Morte D’Arthur”, written by fifteenth-century English writer Thomas Malory, further popularised the tale of this wizard.

Peppered with familiar characters from Victorian history and fiction, the novel follows vampire Geneviève Dieudonné and Charles Beauregard of the Diogenes Club as they strive to solve the mystery of the Ripper murders.

Goodreads Review: I’ve throughly enjoyed all the books of this series – that I’ve read thus far – but their’s really no beating the first book in terms of writing quality or sense horror that it builds as it expounds on the world that Dracula has created.

Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing

Goodreads Blurb: In August 1914, polar explorer Ernest Shackleton boarded the Endurance and set sail for Antarctica, where he planned to cross the last uncharted continent on foot. In January 1915, after battling its way through a thousand miles of pack ice and only a day’s sail short of its destination, the Endurance became locked in an island of ice. Thus began the legendary ordeal of Shackleton and his crew of twenty-seven men. When their ship was finally crushed between two ice floes, they attempted a near-impossible journey over 850 miles of the South Atlantic’s heaviest seas to the closest outpost of civilization.
