The Wee Writing Lassie’s 300 Books in a Year – Book 293

Townie by Neel Patel

Goodreads Blurb: Townie is a brief yet dramatic glimpse at a blossoming friendship between two young women in a small college town – Amal, a transplant from LA, and Bridgette, a local 20-something who feels lost in her own life and becomes enamoured with her new friend’s confidence. At first, the new relationship is intoxicating, and the two women spend every spare minute getting drunk on cheap liquor, party-hopping, and binging reality TV. But soon, a secret is revealed that shifts the dynamic, and Bridgette makes a choice she can never take back.

Goodreads Review: A well written piece but the story feels like it would have been able to breathe more if it had been a bit longer.

The Wee Writing Lassie’s 300 Books in a Year – Book 292

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Goodreads Blurb: Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of…

Goodreads Review: I had to say I did not see that twist coming at all. I love a book that plays on our expectations of the crazy woman trope. Just like I love a good revenge tale. Perfect blend in one here.
